How to Add "Senior Things" Vibes to Your Graduation Photos | Cameron, Mo Senior Photographer

So You've Been Down the Pinterest Rabbit Hole...

We've all been there. You open Pinterest to get a little inspiration and suddenly it's two hours later, you have 47 saved pins, and you're convinced your senior needs a smoke bomb, a vintage car, a field of lavender, and a custom neon sign.

No judgment! But here's the thing - the sessions that actually stop people mid-scroll usually aren't the most elaborate ones.

They're the ones where you can just feel the person in the photos.

The Real Challenge With Senior Photos

Most seniors (and their parents) come into the planning process thinking about what looks cool. And that makes total sense! But "cool" changes. What's trending on Pinterest right now might feel really dated in five years.

What never gets old? Your kid, exactly as they are right now.

That's what I keep coming back to when I'm working with seniors. The goal isn't to create a photo that looks like everyone else's from this year. The goal is to create something that feels unmistakably them.

How to Actually Make Your Senior Session Feel Like Them

Think Personality First, Props Second

Before you start collecting things to bring to the session, ask yourself - what does this person love? What do they do every single day? What lights them up?

That's your starting point.

  • A senior who lives and breathes basketball? Bring the jersey, the ball, the whole thing.

  • A musician? Their instrument tells more of their story than any backdrop ever could.

  • Someone who feels most like themselves outdoors? Location is the prop.

I always encourage seniors and parents to really put thought into personality, interests, and hobbies so those things can show up in the photos. It makes a huge difference.

You Don't Actually Need a Lot of Stuff

Even though I genuinely enjoy over-the-top creative sessions (and yes, they can be so fun!), the sessions that parents love most are the ones where their kid's personality comes through.

Sometimes that's a whole spread of sport memorabilia. Sometimes it's just finding a location where they feel comfortable and letting their expression do the work.

You don't need a prop for every single photo. You need the right things - or sometimes nothing at all.

Stop Copying Your Friend's Session

Okay, this one is said with love! But a lot of seniors get really wrapped up in what their friends did or what's trending right now. And honestly? If you stop and think about what you actually want, we can make something so much more magical than a copycat session ever could be.

Your session should look like you. Not like a Pinterest board from 2024.

Let the Location Do Some Heavy Lifting

A location that means something - a field you grew up playing in, your school, your favorite spot in town - adds personality without adding clutter. It gives the photos context and makes them feel grounded in something real.

Trust the Process (And Your Photographer)

You don't have to figure all of this out on your own! That's literally what I'm here for. When you come in with a sense of who you are and what matters to you, we can build a session around that together. No DIY stress required.

Why This Actually Matters

Graduation is one of those milestones you only get once. The photos from this season aren't just for Instagram - they end up on walls, in frames, in grandma's living room for the next 30 years.

You want to look back and see yourself - not a version of yourself doing whatever was trendy that spring.

When seniors show up as who they actually are, that energy comes through in every single frame. That's what makes parents tear up when they see the gallery. Not the props. Not the setup. The person.
